Oregon is the default tax-free pick for West Coast FBA. The combination of zero statewide sales tax and proximity to the SEA, ONT, and LGB Amazon FC clusters is unique among the five tax-free states. Portland sits roughly 3 hours by truck from the Seattle FC cluster (BFI4, SEA8) and 14 to 16 hours from the Inland Empire cluster (LGB, ONT). That distance is short enough that LTL freight from Oregon prep into West Coast FCs stays cheap enough to preserve the per-unit savings sellers came here for.
Oregon prep operators commonly cite West Coast FC proximity over pure tax math when sellers ask why they should care about Oregon specifically. The tax exemption applies to inventory stored in-state; the proximity argument is what makes the move actually pay.

Portland is the dominant prep metro (~2.5M metro population). Most operators sit in Hillsboro, Beaverton, or eastside Portland to stay close to I-5 and PDX. Eugene is the secondary hub: smaller, cheaper per square foot, slower on inbound from West Coast ports but competitive for inland sellers.

Oregon's Corporate Activity Tax (CAT) applies to businesses with $1M+ in commercial activity sourced to Oregon. Sellers with the volume to care about tax-free inventory storage likely also have enough commercial activity to owe CAT. The net economics still favor Oregon for most West Coast sellers, but confirm with your CPA. McKenzie Services
Hillsboro, Oregon prep center for Amazon FBA and ecommerce sellers. Founded in 2016 by Jim Smith and Hannah Moody as the FBA-prep arm of the McKenzie Books business Jim had run since 2004. Became 100% women-owned in 2023 under co-owners Nita Adams, Hannah Moody, and Emily Gordon. Located in a tax-free state, which lets sellers avoid inventory sales tax exposure. The 21,265 sqft warehouse has a loading dock for LTL, FTL, and full container loads. Services include receiving, inspection, product prep, storage, and fulfillment for both wholesale and DTC channels.
PrimeTime Prep
PrimeTime Prep is an Amazon FBA prep and ship center founded in 2022 by Anthony and Zach, with its primary location in Portland, Oregon and a second distribution site in Lincoln, Nebraska.
