Amazon fulfillment center locations.

FBA inbound is routed by city, not by ZIP code. Every major US Amazon fulfillment center we can verify, grouped by region, with the codes you match against your FBA shipment plan. Use it to decide where to prep, where to ship from, and which inbound cluster your prep-center choice has to align with.

TL;DR / quotable answer

As of June 2026, Amazon runs roughly 110 US fulfillment centers plus 100+ adjacent facilities. FBA inbound is routed by FC code and city, not ZIP, and the cluster that serves your demand should drive where you prep.

Amazon publishes no single FC directory. This list is the major active buildings most FBA inbound routes through, sourced from aboutamazon.com, Seller Central, and Supply Chain Dive.

  • Count~110 active US fulfillment centers, plus 100+ sortation, delivery, IXD, and returns facilities.
  • CodesA 3-letter nearest-airport prefix plus a number. PHX3 is the third Phoenix-area FC, EWR4 is Newark, LGB7 is Los Angeles.
  • TypesSortable (small items), non-sortable (oversize), IXD (palletized freight entry), AMXL (extra-large).
  • IPSFThe Inbound Placement Service Fee applies when stock enters far from its demand region. Match your prep center to the right cluster.
  • Jan 1 2026Amazon ended in-house FBA Prep. The FCs are unchanged; prep now happens at the seller or a third-party prep center.
01How to use this page

What this directory is, and isn't.

A reference for FBA sellers, not an Amazon source. Read it for which FCs serve which metros and how that should shape where you prep.

  • It is a reference for FBA sellers: which Amazon FCs serve which metros, the type of facility (sortable, non-sortable, IXD), and the practical impact on inbound routing.
  • It is not a complete list. Amazon operates 110+ FCs plus 100+ adjacent facilities, and the network changes month to month. We list the major active buildings most FBA inbound routes through.
  • It is notan Amazon source. Amazon doesn't publish a unified directory. See FAQ for primary sources.
  • What changed Jan 1, 2026: Amazon ended its in-house FBA Prep service. The FCs are unchanged; prep now happens at the seller or a third-party prep center. Full context →
02Facility taxonomy

The 6 building types you'll see in your FBA shipment plan.

Amazon routes inbound by building type. Knowing which is which tells you where your units physically land and which fee schedule applies.

Sortable FC

Most common

Items under ~18 inches and ~3 lbs. Conveyor-based pick and pack. The default destination for most FBA sellers' inbound. Codes: PHX3, LGB7, ATL7.

Non-sortable FC

Oversize / heavy

Items that exceed sortable thresholds (over 18 inches or over 3 lbs). Pallet and forklift handling. Storage fees and inbound rules differ. Codes: JFK8, PHX5, LGB3.

Inbound Cross-Dock (IXD)

Entry point

Accepts palletized seller shipments, breaks down, and re-distributes units to downstream FCs. Located near major freight corridors. Sellers using their own freight ship to IXD. Codes: SBD1, FTW1, OFL1.

Amazon XL (AMXL)

Oversize specialty

Furniture, large appliances, anything that needs two-person delivery. Separate inbound process from standard FBA. Codes: PHX7.

Regional sort centers

Not FC

Sort outbound packages by destination ZIP before delivery-station handoff. Sellers don't ship inbound here. Listed for completeness.

Returns centers

Not inbound

Process customer returns. Inventory typically reroutes to standard FCs or to liquidation channels. Sellers don't inbound to these.

03The directory

86 major US Amazon FCs, grouped by region.

Codes follow the airport-prefix convention (3 letters plus a number). Type is sortable, non-sortable, IXD, or Amazon XL. Notes appear only where a building has a non-default role.

04Practical implication

How FC location should change your prep-center choice.

The strongest signal on this page is the regional clustering. Five FC clusters dominate US FBA inbound volume. Match your prep center to the one that serves your demand.

Inland Empire

Los Angeles area

The densest FC cluster in the country. The Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach feed it; Inland Empire prep centers and Oregon (tax-free) intake both work for this corridor.

See near-me coverage for prep centers matched to each cluster, or get hand-matched within 24 hours. FCs outside these five clusters (Phoenix, Denver, Seattle, Bay Area, Miami) are listed in the regional tables above and follow the same logic: match your prep center to the cluster that serves your demand, not the one closest to you.

06FAQ

Frequently asked.

Every answer matches the FAQPage schema this page ships, so an AI answer engine can lift the exact question and answer.

How many Amazon fulfillment centers are there in the US in 2026?

Amazon operates roughly 110 fulfillment centers in the US as of 2026, plus 100+ adjacent facilities (sortation centers, delivery stations, inbound cross-docks, returns centers, and Amazon XL warehouses for oversize items). The exact number changes monthly as Amazon opens, closes, and re-purposes sites. This page lists the major active FCs that FBA inbound shipments most often route through.

Which US states have the most Amazon fulfillment centers?

Among the 86 major active fulfillment centers this page tracks, the states with the most are CA (18), TX (9), GA (5), FL (5), NJ (4). Amazon concentrates fulfillment capacity around large metro demand and freight corridors. This is the working subset most FBA inbound routes through, not Amazon's complete registry, which it does not publish.

How many Amazon fulfillment centers are in Texas, California, and Florida?

Among the major active FCs this page tracks, there are 18 in California, 9 in Texas, and 5 in Florida, listed by code, city, and type in the regional tables on this page. Amazon runs more than these in each state (110+ nationally, with no published per-state count); these are the buildings FBA inbound most often routes through.

How many changes to Amazon's fulfillment-center network does fbaprepfinder track?

fbaprepfinder maintains a dated, sourced changelog of 12 changes to Amazon's US fulfillment network (openings, closures, temporary pauses, and IXD or sortation conversions), each with a primary-source link, alongside 86 active fulfillment centers listed by code, city, state, and type. The network changes monthly, so this is a working, dated record rather than a complete registry.

What do the FC codes mean (PHX3, EWR4, LGB7)?

Each FC code is a 3-letter airport code for the nearest major airport, followed by a number that distinguishes facilities in the same area. PHX3 is the third Phoenix-area FC Amazon opened. LGB stands for Long Beach (Los Angeles area). EWR is Newark. The code is what shows up on your FBA shipment routing once Amazon assigns a destination.

Is there a full list of Amazon FC codes, like an amazon site code or warehouse code list?

Amazon does not publish a single official FC code list, and the network changes monthly, so any list (including this one) is a working subset rather than a complete registry. The code system itself is consistent: a 3-letter prefix for the nearest major airport plus a number for the building. PHX3 is the third Phoenix-area facility, EWR4 is a Newark-area building, LGB7 is Long Beach (Los Angeles area). The same airport-prefix logic extends to sortation centers and delivery stations, which carry their own prefixes (a delivery station reads like DAU1). The reliable signal that a code is currently active is that it appears on a live FBA shipment routing assignment. The regional tables on this page list the major active FC codes most FBA inbound routes through.

What is a sortable vs non-sortable fulfillment center?

Sortable FCs handle smaller items (under ~18 inches and under ~3 lbs) that move through conveyor systems. Non-sortable FCs handle larger or heavier items that need pallets and forklifts. The split matters for FBA sellers because Amazon routes inbound based on the dimensions of your largest unit, and storage fees differ between the two facility types.

What is an Inbound Cross-Dock (IXD) facility?

IXDs accept palletized inbound shipments from sellers and then break the pallets down and ship the individual units to the right sortable or non-sortable FC. They are the entry point for large inbound deliveries. Amazon's IXDs are placed near major freight corridors (San Bernardino, Fort Worth, Lakeland). Sellers using their own freight tend to ship directly to an IXD rather than to a downstream FC. See our dedicated IXD directory at /amazon-ixd-locations/ for the full list with downstream-FC mapping.

What is the difference between an Amazon fulfillment center, distribution center, and sortation center?

They are different building types. A fulfillment center (FC) stores inventory and picks, packs, and ships customer orders; this is where FBA inventory lives. A sortation center sorts already-packed outbound orders by destination ZIP and hands them to delivery stations or carriers; sellers never inbound here. A delivery station is the last-mile hub a package routes through before a driver delivers it. People often say “amazon distribution center” as a generic catch-all for any of these, but in FBA terms the building that matters for your inbound is the fulfillment center, plus the inbound cross-dock that feeds it. This page lists FCs and IXDs, not sortation or delivery stations.

Did Amazon close any fulfillment centers in 2024 or 2025?

Yes. Amazon closed or paused multiple US fulfillment centers through 2024 and 2025 as it rebalanced its network. The pattern is older smaller buildings closing and newer multi-story automated buildings absorbing the volume. The network-changes table on this page lists the closures we could verify against primary sources (WARN filings and named press coverage), including UWA5 (Tukwila WA), the Irvine and West Sacramento CA leases, RNO4 (Reno NV), and BWI1 (Sterling VA). The directory on this page reflects buildings that were active as of 2026-05-19.

How do these FC locations affect Amazon's Inbound Placement Service Fee (IPSF)?

IPSF charges sellers when their inbound shipments need to be redistributed across Amazon FCs. If your inventory enters near East Coast FCs but your demand is West Coast, Amazon has to ship product across the country, and you pay IPSF for that. For standard-size goods at the Minimal placement option, IPSF runs roughly $0.20 to $0.45 per unit. The single most actionable thing this page enables is matching your prep-center location to the FC cluster that serves your demand.

What changed with Amazon's FBA Prep service on January 1, 2026?

Amazon discontinued its in-house FBA Prep and Item Labeling service for shipments created on or after January 1, 2026. Sellers now either prep themselves or use a third-party prep center. The fulfillment centers themselves are unchanged; only the inbound prep step is gone. See our dedicated page on the change for full context and verified third-party options.

Where does Amazon list the official locations of every fulfillment center?

Amazon does not publish a single official directory of every fulfillment center. The closest public sources are aboutamazon.com (regional maps and press releases on new building openings), Amazon Seller Central documentation (which references FCs by code), and Supply Chain Dive coverage. Codes that appear on your FBA shipment routing are the most reliable signal that a given FC is currently active.

How do I find the Amazon fulfillment center near me?

There is no public Amazon warehouse locator, and as a shopper you cannot choose which fulfillment center ships your order; Amazon assigns it. As an FBA seller, “near me” is usually the wrong frame: Amazon routes your inbound to the FC cluster that serves your product’s demand region, not the one closest to your home or office. The actionable move is the reverse, matching your prep center to the FC cluster that serves your demand. The regional tables above show which metros each cluster covers. If you want a prep center positioned for a specific cluster, our near-me coverage page and the hand-match both work from the cluster, not your ZIP.
